GET TO KNOW KARYL
Karyl is Co-Chair of Bilzin Sumberg’s CMBS and Real Estate Capital Markets Group and its CMBS Workout Team. Karyl focuses her practice on structuring and executing large commercial real estate transactions for performing and non-performing loans. She represents the largest commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS) special servicers in the country.

Karyl has negotiated and restructured billions of dollars-worth of distressed real estate loans nationwide to return them to performing status. She handles complex workouts, forbearances, deeds in lieu of foreclosure, discounted payoffs, loan restatements and modifications, assumptions, and transfers of interests, among others, with a special focus in the hospitality sector. Karyl also coordinates approvals with the national rating agencies.

Karyl has experience counseling national and local developers, lenders, landlords, tenants, sellers, and purchasers in engagements such as acquisition, disposition and operation of property, including REO properties, development and financing for all asset types, including office, retail, multi-family, hospitality, self-storage and health care facilities, as well as portfolios of real property.

Karyl's creative approach to structuring a deal includes anticipating future risks, allowing her to more effectively advise clients on their overall strategic plan.

As a bilingual Hispanic attorney, Karyl has excelled at developing strong business relationships with Spanish-speaking clients, as well as forging new relationships with international clientele. She offers integrated counsel with a sense of each party's ultimate objectives.
Q & A
What is your relationship with your clients?
I like to build the type of relationships with clients which allow me to be their trusted advisor. I help them spot issues that they may not have anticipated as well as counsel them on the various courses of action to take when these types of issues arise.
What else do you offer your clients?
I am able to think outside the box and come up with creative and effective alternatives and solutions to get their deals done. At the end of the day, a client is trying to meet a business objective and it’s my job to make sure it’s done as efficiently as possible.
Why do clients like working with you?
Often institutional clients I have worked with will specifically ask to work with me again on other transactions because we have built great working relationships and because they know that they can count on me to get their deals done.
