Bilzin Sumberg's multi-disciplinary International Team is comprised of attorneys from our Corporate & Securities, Tax, Litigation, Real Estate, Land Use and Environmental practice areas.
Our Team employs a multi-faceted combination of business savvy, legal skill and intricate understanding of social cultures to create solutions and opportunities for our clients. Heavily focused on inbound investment from Latin America, we represent domestic and international clients ranging in size from individual investors to large, privately-held and publicly-traded companies.
Our Corporate & Securities attorneys assist in creating, guiding and implementing the plans and objectives of both international clients and domestic clients with international investments by providing legal counsel in connection with a broad spectrum of cross-border transactions and other international business matters and issues or joint ventures and strategic alliances, mergers and acquisitions, privatizations, financing and securities transactions, tax and wealth preservation, litigation and dispute resolution, and environmental, permitting and other regulation of business activities. In addition, a significant percentage of our real estate, land use and environmental representations involve off-shore investors with real estate interests in the United States.
Our highly-regarded Tax practice, led by Richard M. Goldstein, is an integral part of our International Team. Our tax experts work with nonresident individuals and entities investing in the U.S. in order to minimize income, gains, and taxes at the local, state and federal levels, including taxes from effectively connected income, gains from the disposition of U.S. real property interests, capital gains, self-employment and payroll taxes, estate, gift, and generation-skipping taxes, and transfer taxes.
As a complement to our International Team, litigation partner José Ferrer – who joined Bilzin Sumberg in March of 2010 – heads our litigation team in matters abroad. With a strong Latin American focus, Mr. Ferrer routinely represents clients in cross-border and international disputes before U.S. Courts and international arbitration panels.
Our international attorneys are fluent in multiple languages, many of them having lived abroad for extensive periods of time. Accordingly, many of our lawyers are intricately familiar with the business and social cultures of numerous international jurisdictions and have cultivated strong relationships with local legal and business professionals throughout the globe.
