Evaluation
Process
Our goal is to provide constant feedback
to our Summer Associates throughout the summer program. The Summer
Associate mentors meet periodically with the summer associates to review
their projects and discuss any points of constructive feedback.
Additionally, there are two opportunities
for formal evaluation. The first is during the mid-summer review. The
mentor, hiring partner, recruiting coordinator and Summer Associate
meet at the mid-point of the program to discuss the projects that have
been completed. At this time, constructive feedback is provided. In
addition, the mentor is asked to provide report on the Summer Associate's
progress thus far. The Summer Associate is also given the opportunity
to speak about the types of work he or she would like to be involved
in and provide the firm with feedback regarding the summer program.
The second opportunity is at the end-of-summer
review, which is conducted in a similar fashion to the mid-summer review.
At this time, the summer associate indicates a preference for the practice
area from which they would like to receive a permanent offer.
Offers
When determining the size of our summer
program, Bilzin Sumberg's philosophy is to hire only the number of
summer associates to which the firm would like to make permanent offers.
We believe this fosters an environment in the firm that lacks competitiveness.
The practice of law is truly a team effort; the best work product and
culture is maintained by fostering an attitude of teamwork. Therefore,
each summer associate is evaluated individually on his or her experience
at our firm when offers are contemplated. We are proud that
in the past two years, we have extended 100% offers.
We offer the unique opportunity to work
at the main office of a firm that does not have satellite
offices, allowing our summer associates to interact directly with those
attorneys who will participate in the recruitment committee meetings.
Additionally, the recruiting committee has complete autonomy and functions
in a bureaucracy-free environment. Lastly, we are committed to making
offers to our summer class within one week of the end of the summer
program so that students can focus on their third year of law school
without worrying about the stress and demands of a job search.
