Training And Mentoring

At Bilzin Sumberg we believe that providing our Summer Associates with exposure to effective, diverse training programs is important to having a successful summer - and a great start to a prosperous legal career.

Summer Training Seminars

Training seminars are designed to give Summer Associates an inside look at the daily responsibilities, opportunities and issues that our attorneys face everyday. Sample training topics include the following:

  • Real Estate Mock Transaction
    • A six week program designed to provide our summer associates with a realistic exposure to the various legal aspects of a real estate transaction.
  • Judge Bloom Court Observer Program
    • Conducted by former Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Philip Bloom
  • Tips for a Successful Summer
  • Legal Writing Seminar
  • Managing a Busy Workload
  • The Art of Oral Advocacy
  • An Introduction to Billing
  • Legal Marketing and Business Development 101
  • Pro Bono Seminar

Summer Mentor Program

Each Summer Associate is paired with an associate mentor during their summer. The mentors meet with the summer associate regularly to provide insight and feedback about the progress of the various projects and assignments. Mentors help mentees learn about the firm culture and introduce them to life at Bilzin Sumberg. They help familiarize the summer associate with the attorneys of each project or assignment, as well as introduce them to many other attorneys at the firm. They also serve as a resource for guidance on projects.

Mentors act as a liaison and advocate for Summer Associates during the summer - their success is measured by the success of their mentees. Summer Associate mentors also hold a one-year term on the recruitment committee. In this role, mentors participate in mid-summer and end-of-summer reviews. In addition, they speak on behalf of the summer associates at the hiring committee meeting.
