Work Assignments
The best way for Summer Associates to learn about the types of work we do and what life is like at Bilzin Sumberg is to let them choose the assignments that interest them most and then let them take an active role in those assignments. Summer Associates attend and participate in client conferences, as well as attend court hearings, trials and transaction closings.
Each Summer Associate is encouraged and given the opportunity to
select and handle assignments from a variety of practice areas. A
few of the following work assignments were undertaken by our 2007
summer class:
- Conducted international law research of U.S. - Argentinean
Treaties & IP
rights in Argentina.
- Reviewed Agreement and Plan of Merger draft
for issues under the Florida Business Corporation Act.
- Attended
a city planning meeting and updated the client and partner
on the outcome of specific proposals.
- Reviewed Declaration
of Covenants and Easements to determine rights of one of the
parcel owners in the shopping center.
- Analyzed document production
to determine basis of claim in contract dispute.
- Reviewed
our Motion to Compel and opposing counsel's and prepared a
memorandum stating whether the legal authority cited in the response
stood for the proposition for which they are cited.
- Determined
the current state of abandonment law with respect to a life
estate in Florida real property.
- Researched the common interest
privilege/doctrine between a debtor and a creditors committee
and attended the contested hearing.
- Drafted License Agreement
for publication of magazine in Panama.
- Attended and assisted
in a high profile arbitration for a significant real estate
developer.
