Work Assignments

The best way for Summer Associates to learn about the types of work we do and what life is like at Bilzin Sumberg is to let them choose the assignments that interest them most and then let them take an active role in those assignments. Summer Associates attend and participate in client conferences, as well as attend court hearings, trials and transaction closings.

Each Summer Associate is encouraged and given the opportunity to select and handle assignments from a variety of practice areas. A few of the following work assignments were undertaken by our 2007 summer class:

  • Conducted international law research of U.S. - Argentinean Treaties & IP rights in Argentina.
  • Reviewed Agreement and Plan of Merger draft for issues under the Florida Business Corporation Act.
  • Attended a city planning meeting and updated the client and partner on the outcome of specific proposals.
  • Reviewed Declaration of Covenants and Easements to determine rights of one of the parcel owners in the shopping center.
  • Analyzed document production to determine basis of claim in contract dispute.
  • Reviewed our Motion to Compel and opposing counsel's and prepared a memorandum stating whether the legal authority cited in the response stood for the proposition for which they are cited.
  • Determined the current state of abandonment law with respect to a life estate in Florida real property.
  • Researched the common interest privilege/doctrine between a debtor and a creditors committee and attended the contested hearing.
  • Drafted License Agreement for publication of magazine in Panama.
  • Attended and assisted in a high profile arbitration for a significant real estate developer.
