Miami, Florida, February 13, 2009 On Saturday, as part of the firm´s Bilzin Sumberg Cares initiative, attorneys and staff from the law firm of Bilzin Sumberg Baena Price & Axelrod LLP headed to Habitat for Humanity´s 2009 Blitz Build in the Jordan Commons development, for a day of service to the community. At the event, Bilzin Sumberg volunteers assisted with landscaping the neighborhood community center. Jordan Commons is one of the largest Habitat for Humanity communities in the nation, and, once completed, will consist of 187 homes. These homes are sold to families who would not ordinarily have the opportunity to purchase a home, after the families meet specific qualifications and work hundreds of hours on the construction of their own and neighbors´ homes.
Volunteering their time at the various building events for Habitat for Humanity is not the only way Bilzin Sumberg cares. In December 2008, the firm was honored by Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami with a house dedicated in its name. The house, located in the Abraham Villas neighborhood of Liberty City, was sold to the Dix family, who qualified for a no-interest loan from Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami.
Additionally, the firm´s attorneys extend their services by routinely performing pro bono work for the organization. Through this work and the spirit of volunteerism, Bilzin Sumberg demonstrates that its commitment to the community extends far beyond the office, and stems from a genuine desire to better the people and places around it.
