Partner Monica Cunill-Fals Selected As An Outstanding Member Of The Cuban American Bar Association
Miami, Florida, November 21, 2008 Bilzin Sumberg Baena Price & Axelrod LLP announces that Monica Cunill-Fals, a Partner of Bilzin Sumberg's Real Estate Group, was named one of the Outstanding Members of the Year at the Cuban American Bar Association (CABA) reception on November 17, for her commitment to and involvement in CABA.
Ms. Cunill-Fals, who is running for a seat on CABA's 2009 Board of Directors, serves on CABA's Community Liaison and Mentorship/Scholarship Committees. As a member of the Community Liaison Committee, she assists in developing projects and organizing events that help those with needs in our community. In addition, through the Mentor/Scholarship Committee, Ms. Cunill-Fals mentors Hispanic law students and reviews student applications for scholarships awarded by CABA at local law schools.
"I am honored to be named an outstanding member of CABA, an organization which is a strong leader of diversity within our legal community," stated Ms. Cunill-Fals. Her commitment to serving minorities and under privileged groups in the community extends far beyond her involvement in CABA. She is a volunteer at Take Stock in Children, a mentor for Hispanic law students, a mentor for Florida International University's Women's Mentoring Program, and serves on the Women's Fund Grantee Selection Committee.
Bilzin Sumberg was also recognized by CABA this year as the recipient of the 2008 Law Firm Diversity Award in the large-firm category. The award was based on the results of a CABA survey, which asked attorneys to rate firms in compensation, quality of work assignments, and the possibility of promotion and client contacts. One of the most critical criteria used was an evaluation of the progress each firm had made towards diversity. Bilzin Sumberg’s efforts leading to the award included its annual holiday reception for minority law students, its annual summer welcoming reception for Minority Judicial Interns and participation in other diversity-driven recruiting efforts, including the Minority Job Fair and the Lavender Job Fair.
