Q & A
What keeps your clients up at night?
My clients care deeply about sharing their wealth with future generations and want to preserve as much as possible to give. I am passionate about working with my clients in order to develop estate planning strategies that achieve their goals, reduce risk, and minimize expenses. I bring positive energy and enthusiasm to help my clients get the best results possible.
What excites you most about tax & estate planning?
Working with successful business people is inspiring. I learn so much about entrepreneurship and the ingenuity and tenacity of those who have built businesses and accumulated wealth. As their lawyer, I make sure that I understand the impact of various tax attributes on their business and estate planning goals to avoid adverse tax consequences, whether in planning for or administering the estate.
How has Bilzin Sumberg helped you develop your tax & estate planning practice?
Bilzin Sumberg provides the right balance of mentorship and independence. I receive constructive feedback and encouragement from my mentors, and that helps me be a stronger counselor for my clients. My previous litigation background is valued, as it makes me a better planner. The whole point of planning properly is to stay out of court -- out of audits, out of litigation, out of family disputes.
Why is corporate structuring such an essential part of your tax & estate planning practice?
When business people use trusts as an asset protection-planning tool, their existing business entity may need restructuring to ensure it flows properly into the trust.  We collaborate with our Corporate team to provide input om the gifting or sale part of the trust needed to provide the flexibility of maintaining the business operation without interruption and protecting the family’s future.
