Q & A
What sets you apart from other real estate lawyers?
I believe my life experience is what sets me apart. I was born in and lived the first years of my life in Bogota, Colombia, a very large and noisy city with millions of people, before moving to Naples, Florida, a sleepy town largely populated by retirees. Having experienced that contrast gave me a unique perspective early on in life and it taught me how to adapt to different environments. I have also traveled extensively, both within the U.S. and aboard, and lived in various places around the world. I have had different experiences in each of those places with people that have shaped, in a meaningful way, who I have become professionally. I have a very open mind about people and culture, I love trying different things, I keep calm in unknown environments, and I am not scared to take a risk or take a leap. You have to be confident in yourself and trust that you can succeed. I try to bring that confidence into my practice.
How did you get into real estate law and capital markets?
I took mostly transactional classes during law school and also some MBA classes at the business school. I returned home and worked at a boutique real estate firm in Naples where I got a taste for the industry. My goal, however, was always to practice in a large city, which led me to Miami, where I started working on significant commercial transactions. I like being a part of the deals that make a city grow and prosper. I enjoy advising and educating clients on the different scenarios and then negotiating the terms to get them what they want.

"I often look at the transactions that I work on like puzzles; trying to fit the pieces together and make them work as a whole. I also enjoy the art of negotiating and getting my clients what they want."
