Q & A
How has your background in real estate finance informed your current practice?
My experience in banking and at a private equity firm allows me to understand my clients’ deals from a business perspective, which in turn imbues my counsel to them with practicality and efficacy. In working with the different parties to a transaction, I can separate the very real issues that may affect the viability and long-term success of a deal from hypothetical considerations that are unlikely to materialize, which then in turn allows my clients to make functional and informed decisions that move the ball forward. Clients value this solutions-oriented, pragmatic approach to their matters.
Why did you choose Bilzin Sumberg for your affordable housing practice?
Affordable housing is a highly nuanced area of real estate law that requires a deep understanding of facets that do not normally apply to market rate housing development, such as specialized tax credits, public financing, and unique incentives at various levels of government. There are only a handful of law firms in Florida that can effectively handle this niche field, with Bilzin Sumberg leading the pack. The firm’s technical prowess in this field attracted me, as well as the wide breadth of its representation in all of the state’s major housing markets.
