Q & A
What past experiences shaped your career?
I started my professional career as an analyst for a vacation and timeshare company, and then moved on to working as a consultant for a global management and technology consulting company where I handled large-scale projects for the U.S. Department of Defense and the Department of the Treasury. After law school, I served as in-house counsel and outside counsel for businesses. I understand the demands of business from being exposed to so many aspects of it. I understand my clients' perspectives--whether he or she is an executive working in a non-legal capacity or as a lawyer in-house.
How do you distinguish yourself from other lawyers?
I believe that being a good technician is not enough; a good lawyer must understand the demands and perspectives of the different stakeholders of a client's business and adapt strategy accordingly. I draw from my professional experiences prior to practicing law, and I find that my clients are much more richly served as a result. The ultimate reward for me is to see a client seek my counsel on matters outside the universe of closing their deals.
