Q & A
Why should a client hire you instead of another attorney in your practice area?
My experience in the CMBS industry throughout each of its significant periods of growth, retraction, and rebirth, together with having experience in all areas of the industry -- from pool origination and structuring, to formulation of all core documents, to special servicing enforcement and asset workouts, and counseling on the current new regulatory regimes -- gives me a comprehensive and unique in-depth skill set that few of my competitors have.
What's keeping your clients up at night, and how are you resolving those issues?
The implementation in December 2016 of the new risk retention rules are a major concern for my clients. These rules are a product of the Dodd-Frank Act and will require a complete restructuring of how firms invest. We are focused on these issues and how to help our clients navigate through the new regulatory environment.
How does Bilzin Sumberg's one-firm approach benefit your clients?
We cater to the leading B-piece purchasers and special servicers in the CMBS industry both on behalf of the investors in those interests and on behalf of the special servicers administering the pools. The transactions often involve real estate, land use, and creditor issues, since the pools are composed of commercial mortgages. A client may want to evaluate a loan on a property that has an environmental issue, or deal with an offshore guarantor where a bankruptcy proceeding must be instituted before the transaction can proceed. Whatever the case, our clients appreciate that we can refer and handle all of it in house. We are diligent, efficient, and completely responsive to our clients' needs on a 24/7 basis.
