Q & A
As an attorney focused on dispute resolution, what do clients most appreciate about your approach to their matters?
Clients have told me that my passionate dedication to serving their interests has been a significant factor in their satisfaction with my work. This passion in my representation of clients comes from two places. First, I humanize my clients and try to relate to their challenges as much as possible. You can’t “win” for your clients if you don’t understand them personally. Second, I adopt the mentality that “there’s always a way.” Dispute resolution cases can be daunting, but with a mentality of never giving up, you bring your best work to the client, and in my experience, the client always views it as an essential part of my value-added to their matters.
What is one thing that you think clients should know about attorneys who specialize in dispute resolution?
There is a widespread notion that you are only supposed to retain an attorney once the prospect of litigation between parties becomes imminent. While it is clearly the case that companies and individuals need to retain competent legal counsel when involved in litigation, retaining an attorney early on can help avoid costly litigation in the first place. One of the essential things a legal counsel can do for their client is to advise them on how to avoid costly and lengthy litigation. As dispute resolution attorneys, typically, by the time we get involved, many months or sometimes years of back and forth between the parties have already transpired. This tends to make the process that much costlier for the client once litigation commences. However, when clients come to me early on, I take proactive action to assist them in avoiding this legal exposure and litigation gamesmanship that could affect their business from the beginning.
