GET TO KNOW LIANA
Liana represents landowners throughout all stages of property development. This includes land use due diligence, environmental permitting and regulatory matters, and accessibility compliance. She routinely provides land use counsel to clients seeking various approvals from county and municipal governments throughout South Florida. She also defends clients in administration proceedings and federal litigation involving claims brought under Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Fair Housing Act, and other accessibility and disability rights laws.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Liana worked for eight years as a journalist for The Miami Herald, covering real estate development while gaining intimate familiarity with South Florida's real estate market and the local land development regulations shaping it.
Q & A
How has your previous career as a journalist informed your current practice as an attorney?
Journalists analyze complex information, verify facts, and then succinctly communicate their findings to the public -- all while under tight deadlines. These are skills I acquired as an investigative reporter and skills I rely on every day as a land development attorney. My ability to advance our clients' goals comes down to efficient research, relentless communications with public officials, and most importantly, storytelling. Whether through a letter of intent or during a public hearing, I make sure to provide decision makers and community stakeholders with a narrative that helps them connect with and ultimately support a project.
What are some of the unique aspects of your land use and zoning practice?
One of my specialties is counseling clients on compliance with accessibility and disability rights laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Fair Housing Act. Too often accessibility requirements are regarded simply as a checklist item to get a new development approved, but thankfully developers are coming to understand that accessible and inclusive design enhances the experience for everyone using a space and therefore results in a better, more marketable project. I consider this rewarding work because of my belief that development of real property should be an inclusive endeavor, accessible to everyone.
