Q & A
How does your training and experience in the U.S. Army help you represent clients?
Learning how to read body language, decipher motivation, identify opportunities, and predict human behavior are powerful tools in any profession. As a lawyer, it is especially helpful to have these skills. I also learned the value of research, meeting preparation, and negotiating desired outcomes using contemporaneous decision-making skills in my military career. I was proud to become a lead interrogator responsible for assigning cases, teaching others, and approving final reports. Interrogation training helped me excel in legal research and writing, due diligence, oral advocacy, and client interactions.
What were the highlights of your law school experience?
I started my legal education in Colombia, but law school in the United States exceeded my expectations. I participated in an international moot court competition relating to international tax in Brussels. It was an eye-opening experience as were my internships at the U.S. Department of Justice Anti-Trust Division in Washington, DC and the Eleventh Circuit Court Civil Division. I served as Symposium Editor for the Business Law Review and was the recipient of the CALI Excellence Award for Professional Responsibility.
