Major Takeover of United States Ports Defeated

Representation of Continental Stevedoring & Terminals, a wholly owned subsidiary of Eller & Company, in an internationally-publicized dispute concerning the takeover of six American seaports by Dubai Ports World, a United Arab Emirates company. Dubai Ports World had secretly obtained approval by the United States Government to take over Peninsular and Oriental, a worldwide container terminal operator, in a $6.8 billion deal. We led a national team of lawyers and lobbyists in a multifaceted effort that challenged the takeover and ultimately led to Dubai Ports World's agreement to divest itself of the American port operations. In September 2008, the parties agreed to a confidential settlement.
