As an environmental and land-use attorney, John advises public and private clients on a variety of environmental regulatory, permitting, and litigation matters, including environmental assessment and liability, transactional support and due diligence, wetlands and coastal permitting, hazardous materials contamination, legislation drafting, climate change, and energy and infrastructure projects. John also counsels clients on virtually all aspects of real estate development, from permitting and entitlement strategy through government approvals and enforcement actions. His experience includes complex regulatory matters involving the National Environmental Policy Act, the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the Endangered Species Act, the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), and related state laws. He has represented companies such as Public Storage, NBC Universal, Paramount Pictures, White Rock Quarries, and National Marine Manufacturer’s Association, among others.
John's experience serves to complement the firm's robust environmental portfolio. Led by partner, Howard E. Nelson, the team is often consulted by clients regarding environmental due diligence issues in markets across the Southeastern United States.
