2008 Miami Dade Special Olympics
February 24, 2008
Athletes and volunteers alike will be up with the sun on Sunday for the 2008 Miami Dade Special Olympics, a day of fun and competition for those with mental disabilities. Joining the athletes will be volunteers from the law firm of Bilzin Sumberg, which has participated in the Miami Dade Special Olympics for more than ten years.
From partners to the newest staff members, employees and their families will act as "huggers," someone who accompanies a participant as he or she competes in the various track and field events. This year, their volunteer work will be part of the ongoing Bilzin Sumberg Cares initiative, an employee-based program, designed to affect change in the surrounding community.
Alan D. Axelrod, Chair of the Corporate & Securities Group, and an avid volunteer with the Special Olympics will lead the firm's volunteers. "As someone who has been involved in this event for more than 20 years, I can assure you it is a day you will thoroughly enjoy and remember forever," said Mr. Axelrod in reference to his years of volunteering with the Special Olympics.
