A capable legal writer is concise, precise, authoritative or persuasive and clear. Legalese is notorious for complex words and convoluted sentences. “Plain language,” advocated by many legal practitioners is a more effective method of communicating complex ideas. Critically examining legalese and learning the principles of plain language can help to markedly improve legal writing.
