Scott L. Baena Appointed By Governor Crist to National Conference Of Commissioners On Uniform State Laws

Miami, Florida, October 26, 2007 The law firm of Bilzin Sumberg Baena Price & Axelrod LLP, announced today that Scott L. Baena, Partner and Chair of the firm's Restructuring & Bankruptcy Group, has been appointed by Florida Governor Charlie Crist to serve a four-year term on the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws. The appointment is subject to Senate approval. Mr. Baena will be one of six volunteer commissioners representing the State of Florida. As a result of his appointment to the Commission, Mr. Baena will also serve as an ex officio honorary nonvoting member of the Florida Commission on Interstate Cooperation.

The Commission is charged with examining various areas of law, ascertaining the best means to effect their assimilation and uniformity in state law, and drafting of proposed uniform laws.

The Commission is comprised of more than 350 practicing attorneys, judges, academic scholars, legislators and other State officials that provide States with proposed legislation designed to bring clarity and stability to critical areas of State statutory law. Former commissioners include President Woodrow Wilson, former U.S. Supreme Court Justices Louis Brandeis, William H. Rehnquist and David Souter.

Mr. Baena has been actively involved with commercial legislative initiatives in Florida for many years, including authorship and sponsorship of Floridas version of the Uniform Commercial Code in 1981, as well as numerous subsequent amendments to that law. He is an accomplished trial lawyer in bankruptcy-related matters with over 30 years of experience. His practice focuses on creditors rights, workouts, bankruptcy and commercial loan transactions.
