Stanley B. Price Appointed as Chair of the Local Policy Council to Floridians for Smarter Growth
Miami, Florida, January 15, 2008 The law firm of Bilzin Sumberg Baena Price & Axelrod LLP announced today that named partner and Chair of the Land Use & Government Relations Practice Group, Stanley B. Price, has been appointed upon recommendation by local attorneys as Chair of the Local Policy Council to Floridians for Smarter Growth (FSG), to join in the fight against Hometown Democracy.
"I am honored to oppose this proposal which would violate fundamental concepts of representative democracy," stated Mr. Price, a supporter of smarter growth, who is also advocating on behalf of several other groups that oppose the amendment, including the Builders Association of South Florida (BASF).
Hometown Democracy is being considered as a proposed amendment should it receive the required signatures to be included in the upcoming Florida ballot. "We will have the advantage of Stan as our Local Policy Council Chair, which will help tremendously in defeating this pro-sprawl, anti-growth amendment," said Mark Wilson, FSG Treasurer and Florida Chamber of Commerce Executive Vice President.
Mr. Price has been at the forefront of successful revitalization of Miami-Dade County for over 35 years and has been the principal draftsman of important land use legislation in the state of Florida. He works extensively with government and regulatory agencies, developers and landowners to examine, interpret and establish land use policy. He has served as special land use counsel to several Florida municipalities and chaired the Building And Zoning Committee of the Miami Chamber of Commerce; the Commerce Planning, Zoning and Growth Management Subcommittee of the Great Miami Chamber of Commerce; the Dade County Impact Free Review Committee; the Special Task Force to Review Area Studies in Dade County; and the Land Use Subcommittee of the Builders Association of South Florida.
FSG was founded by Florida's community and business leaders to fight extreme special interests bound to destroy Floridas unique quality-of-life through lobbying for the Hometown Democracy amendment.
