Managing Partner Named United Way Of Miami-Dade Board Member
Miami, Florida, June 30, 2008 - Bilzin Sumberg Baena Price & Axelrod LLP announced today that John C. Sumberg, Managing Partner, has been elected to serve on the Board of Directors for the United Way of Miami-Dade. Mr. Sumberg was voted in by the Board of Directors and Trustees at the non-profit organization's Annual Meeting and Volunteer Awards Program, held on June 30th, 2008, thereby commencing his term. Mr. Sumberg currently serves as Trustee of the United Way of Miami-Dade, and is also the 2008 Cabinet Alexis de Tocqueville Society Co-Chair of the United Way of Miami-Dade.
As Managing Partner of Bilzin Sumberg, Mr. Sumberg has been instrumental in establishing the concept of volunteerism as a core component of many of the law firm's initiatives, including Bilzin Sumberg Cares, a unique employee-driven partnership with Hands on Miami. Mr. Sumberg actively serves as Vice Chairman and Board Member of the non-profit Symmetry School Foundation, which founded and supports Coral Rock Academy, a school for children with neurobiological disorders. He is also an honorary member of the Board of Trustees for Sundari Foundation, an organization that provides shelter for homeless women.
Additionally, Mitchell E. Widom, Partner in the Litigation Group, was recognized at the meeting, as one of ten finalists selected for the 2008 Dorothy Shula Award for Volunteerism, which recognized individuals dedicated to improving lives in the community through service and volunteerism.
