Albert E. Dotson, Jr. Reappointed to Federal Judicial Nominating Commission
Miami, FL - Completing his first, two-year term earlier this year, Bilzin Sumberg's Land Use & Government Relations practice group leader, Albert E. Dotson, Jr., has been reappointed by Senators Bill Nelson and Marco Rubio to a second, two-year term as a member of Florida's Judicial Nominating Commission (JNC). The JNC is charged with choosing finalists for Presidential appointments to federal judgeships, as well as U.S. attorneys and U.S. marshals.
Among the first orders of business for the JNC will be finding potential replacements for Judge Alan S. Gold (Southern District of Florida), who retired in January 2011, and Judge Richard A. Lazzara (Middle District of Florida) and Chief U.S. District Judge Stephan P. Mickle (Northern District of Florida), who will be retiring in June and December, respectively.
Mr. Dotson is integrally involved in numerous civic and charitable organizations in Florida, including the United Way of Miami-Dade County, Alonzo Mourning Charities, the Orange Bowl Committee and the Alliance for Ethical Government. Mr. Dotson was also selected by the U.S. Secretary of Defense during the Clinton Administration to participate in the Joint Civilian Orientation Conference.
