Bilzin Sumberg Hosts High School Students In Legal Diversity Conference Day
MIAMI, FL – As part of a national legal pipeline program to promote diversity in the field of law, Bilzin Sumberg welcomed more than 50 Coral Gables Senior High School students to its Brickell office to be "attorneys for a day."
Bilzin Sumberg attorneys and professionals led the day-long workshop, which included mock negotiations, transactions and trial preparation. Attorneys also shared career advice and insights on what it is like to be a lawyer.
The event was part of the "NALP/Street Law Legal Diversity Pipeline Program," a partnership between Street Law, Inc. and the National Association for Law Placement, Inc. The program pairs selected law firms with diverse groups of high school students with the goal of teaching students about the legal profession.
"Our principal aim is to expand the diversity of the legal community in South Florida. It is our hope that by opening our offices to these high school students, we might light a spark that could lead them to pursue a career in law – and help give them the motivation to achieve it," said Marshall R. Pasternack, a partner in the Corporate & Tax Group and Chair of Bilzin Sumberg Cares, the firm's charitable involvement and diversity initiative. "As one of only nine law firms in the country selected to participate in the Legal Diversity Pipeline Program, we are proud to support this effort for the fifth year in a row."
Previously, Bilzin Sumberg attorneys made visits to Coral Gables Senior High School where they taught in-classroom lessons on various legal topics including litigation, mediation and real estate contracts.
