Keymorada Invitational Fishing Tournament Raises Over $570,000
MIAMI, FL - The Keymorada Invitational Fishing Tournament to benefit the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA), now in its eleventh year, has raised more than $4.5 million since its inception, with over $570,000 raised this year alone. This year’s event took place May 5-8 at the Cheeca Lodge & Spa in Islamorada.
The Keymorada Tournament was founded by Bilzin Sumberg Partner and Litigation Practice Group Leader, Mitchell Widom, along with his wife, Alicia and brother, Glenn, following his daughter’s diagnosis with Crohn’s disease. Since its inception, the Keymorada Tournament has grown into one of the most successful fundraising fishing tournaments in the country and one of the largest fundraising events for the CCFA.
According to Mitchell, one of the things that makes this tournament unique in its success is the generous support it receives from the legal community. Approximately 200 firms from across the country donate to the event each year.
“The amount of support we have been able to garner from the legal profession has been simply incredible,” said Mitchell. “These law firms, which typically go head-to-head in the courtroom, have found common ground in the fight to find a cure for these terrible diseases that often afflict children.”
Some 1.4 million American adults and children suffer from Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, and as many as 150,000 are under the age of 18. Most develop the diseases between the ages of 15 and 35. Proceeds from this year’s event will be donated to the CCFA, as well as the University of Miami’s Crohn’s and Colitis Center.
