Mauricio D. Rivero
Mauricio Rivero is a Partner in Bilzin Sumberg's Tax & Private Wealth Group, where he counsels high-net-worth international families, closely held businesses, and investors on the U.S. tax and estate planning issues that arise when family, wealth, and business interests cross borders. His work includes pre-immigration and expatriation planning, business succession planning, private trust company formation and structuring, and the U.S. income and transfer tax treatment of foreign trusts and estates. He also advises U.S. and foreign investors on inbound and outbound planning, treaty analysis, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, and corporate and partnership tax matters, including REIT structuring for foreign investors.
Mauricio began his career as a Revenue Agent with the Internal Revenue Service, handling complex domestic and international tax matters, and he brings that perspective to his controversy and compliance work. He has represented clients before the IRS and the U.S. Tax Court and has guided clients through the IRS offshore voluntary disclosure and streamlined programs.
