The partners and associates of Bilzin Sumberg hosted a networking reception for minority law students from around the country who call Miami home.

About the Speaker

Senator Jones attended the U.S. Air Force Academy and later became an F-16 fighter pilot. While stationed at Homestead Air Force Base, he attended the University of Miami School of Law, where he earned his law degree. While attending law school, he moved to USAF reservist status, where he rose to the rank of colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. From 1990-1992, he served in the Florida House of Representatives from Miami. From 1992-2002, he served in the Florida Senate, where he was Democratic Senate President Designate and was Chairman or Vice-Chairman of six different committees. Senator Jones was President Bill Clintons nominee to become the nations first black Secretary of the U.S. Air Force. In 2006, he was chosen as a nominee for the position of lieutenant governor by gubernatorial candidate Jim Davis.
