Bilzin Sumberg's summer associates put on their gardening gloves and braved the humidity to landscape one of the 187 homes in the Jordan Commons community for Habitat for Humanity. The team of 10 summer associates laid sod and planted hedges and trees throughout the morning of June 27th as part of the firm's Bilzin Sumberg Cares initiative.

Bilzin Sumberg Cares is an employee-driven, community volunteer program that was conceived in 2007 and sprang from the firm's commitment to the positive development of the community. Earlier this year, members of Bilzin Sumberg finished a house that was built the previous summer by last year's summer associates.

"Having the summer associates work together on the Habitat project is one way in which the firm introduces our summer associates to one of our many worthwhile causes and to our overall commitment to corporate social responsibility," noted Jessica Buchsbaum, the firms Director of Recruiting, who also joined the summer associates on the worksite.

Jordan Commons, located in south Miami-Dade County, is the second largest Habitat for Humanity community in the nation, with a unique design that focuses on environmental sensitivity, energy conservation and reduced carbon emissions. The community will be the epicenter of the 2009 annual Blitz Build, in which ten houses will be built in two weeks.
