Bilzin Sumberg Kick-Starts a Season Of Giving

Press Release
November 14, 2008

Miami, Florida, November 14, 2008 At the law firm of Bilzin Sumberg Baena Price & Axelrod LLP, the month of October ushered in the start of the holiday season, as well as the Bilzin Sumberg Cares spirit of giving. Bilzin Sumberg Cares is the firm's employee-based community volunteer program, born out of the desire to affect tangible change within our community.

This month, Bilzin Sumberg donated over 100 used computers to non-profit organizations and schools within the community, including the United Way of Miami-Dade, Overtown Youth Center, Bet Breira Jewish Day School and Coral Rock Academy.

"Improving the learning environments for young people in our community has always been a central aspect of our philanthropic mission at Bilzin Sumberg," said John C. Sumberg, the firm's Managing Partner. "We also understand the important role that technology plays in a child's education. Keeping computer systems current can be a heavy burden for many organizations within the community. We are donating these computers as another way in which our firm hopes to affect positive change in the south Florida community."

On October 18, Bilzin Sumberg Cares held its second annual Project Day at Miami's Seymour Gelber Senior Day Care Center. More than 100 Bilzin Sumberg volunteers spent the day landscaping the grounds of the Gelber Center, an organization that provides an interactive environment for physically- and mentally-impaired senior citizens. Additionally, volunteers painted the outside of the building, created murals, assembled shelves and storage units and engaged in arts and crafts activities with Gelber Center clients.

Last month, Bilzin Sumberg led a clothing drive benefiting the Women's Alliance of Miami-Dade County, an affiliate of the national organization assisting low-income women and families in attaining self-sufficiency. Firm employees and their families donated professional attire, shoes, accessories and handbags in support of the organization, which provides a variety of services aimed at elevating women from poverty by improving professional appearance and enhancing career skills.

The firm also held a month-long drive to collect used cell phones, accessories and batteries. In an effort to reduce potentially toxic landfill waste, firm employees gathered old phones and chargers, donating them for recycling and refurbishing.
