February 17, 2012

Miami, FL. Bilzin Sumberg Baena Price & Axelrod LLP Land Use & Government Relations Partner, Albert E. Dotson, Jr., was selected to address The Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. Bar Foundation's 34th Annual Awards Gala. The gala will highlight the importance of "Bridging the Gap" and will be held at The Westin Colonnade in Coral Gables on February 25, 2012.

Formerly the Black Lawyers Association, the Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. Bar Association was founded in 1977 by a group of African American attorneys who sought to remove the barriers to full inclusion into the legal community in Miami-Dade County. The association has had an important impact on the legal, civic and political landscape of Miami-Dade County, and continues to provide financial assistance and mentoring to law and undergraduate students.

As Practice Group Leader in the firm's Land Use & Government Relations Group, Al represents real estate developers in securing land use, zoning and other government approvals and permits for large-scale real estate developments. He routinely negotiates economic development incentive programs on behalf of major U.S. corporate clients. In 2011, Albert was reappointed to a second, two-year term by Senators Bill Nelson and Marco Rubio to serve as a member of the Florida Federal Judicial Nominating Commission. The Judicial Nominating Commission is a statewide panel charged with selecting finalists for presidential appointments to district judgeships, U.S. attorneys and U.S. marshals.

In addition to maintaining a successful practice, Al is highly involved in civic and charitable organizations throughout the country. Al serves as the National Chairman of the 100 Black Men of America. He also serves as a trustee of the United Way of Miami-Dade County, a board member of the Alonzo Mourning Charities, and a member of the Orange Bowl Committee. Previously, he has served as Chairman of the Miami-Dade College Foundation Board of Trustees and the Overtown Youth Center Board of Directors. As a result of his work and community involvement, Albert is frequently recognized by nationally ranked publications, including Chambers USA and The Best Lawyers in America.
