Bilzin Sumberg Finalist in Daily Business Review's 2013 Litigation Department of the Year Awards

Miami, FL – Bilzin Sumberg Baena Price & Axelrod LLP announced that the firm's Litigation Practice placed as a finalist in the Daily Business Review's 2013 Litigation Department of the Year contest in the large firm category. An ALM Signature Awards Series, the awards recognize powerhouse litigation teams in Florida for their outstanding teamwork and achievements in general litigation and specialty practice groups. Firms will be honored on April 17 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Miami.

Bilzin Sumberg's Litigation Group focuses on complex commercial matters spanning a multitude of industries. Last year, the firm was involved in a variety of major litigation for which they are being recognized, including:

  • Bilzin Sumberg Litigation Practice Group Leader Mitchell E. Widom and his team represented the purchaser of the Perry Hotel South Beach in the settlement of numerous lawsuits that were pending against the property at acquisition, clearing the way for the client to move forward with over $100 million in improvements to the property.

  • Partners Robert W. Turken, Scott N. Wagner and their team represented electronics distributor All American Semiconductor Inc. in claims against the major global manufacturers of dynamic random access memory (DRAM) for violation of federal antitrust laws which caused the client damages in excess of $100 million. The Bilzin Sumberg team negotiated settlements with all the defendants, achieving one of the highest percentage recoveries of all the class and opt-out plaintiffs in the multidistrict litigation.

  • The Bilzin Sumberg antitrust team is currently involved in one of the largest antitrust litigations ever in the United States, representing primary opt-out plaintiffs in a precedent-setting LCD price fixing lawsuit. Mr. Turken and Mr. Wagner represent two electronic distributors in the prosecution of claims against the major worldwide manufacturers of TFT-LCD panels, seeking damages of over $1 billion collectively.
