Brian L. Bilzin Honored with MCCJ 2016 Silver Medallion Award

Miami, FLMCCJ awarded Brian L. Bilzin, a founding partner of Bilzin Sumberg, and four other leaders in the community, with the 2016 Silver Medallion Award in honor of their outstanding leadership in the Miami community. Kimberly Green, Roberto Martinez, and Detra Shaw-Wilder also received Silver Medallions and the Special Clergy Medallion was presented to The Venerable Jean Fritz Bazin. In a highly respected tradition, since 1946, MCCJ has presented Silver Medallions to individuals whose humanitarian work parallels MCCJ's mission. Mr. Bilzin received the award at the Annual MCCJ Humanitarian Dinner and Awards Gala on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at which the organization and it's honorees, came together to celebrate Miami's diversity and those who have helped to build a more welcoming, inclusive, just and cooperative society.

Founded in 1935 as the Miami branch of the National Conference of Christians and Jews, MCCJ seeks an inclusive community in which all people are treated with dignity and respect. Rooted in interfaith good will, MCCJ's mission includes creating a safe haven for dialog, training inclusive leaders, and highlighting the benefits of diversity through education, advocacy, dialog, and conflict resolution.

As a founding partner of Bilzin Sumberg, Brian Bilzin leads the firm in its commitment to giving back to the community. He is actively involved and supports various organizations that invest in Miami's present and future.

He has held various leadership positions for many years with the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, serving as Major Gifts Chair, General Campaign Chair and the Chair of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee.

Brian is a former Board and Executive Committee member of the Jackson Memorial Foundation, a private fundraising arm of Jackson Health Systems and is a founder of Mount Sinai Medical Center. Mr. Bilzin serves as on the Board of Directors for the Central Agency for Jewish Education whose mission is to promote quality Jewish learning and identity-building throughout Miami. Serving as a Board Member of the "I have a Dream Foundation," Mr. Bilzin advocates for the educational success of children attending schools in economically disadvantaged areas through tutoring, mentoring, counseling and a commitment for a college education.

Brian Bilzin is a Trustee of United Way of Miami-Dade, and through the Firm's community involvement program, Bilzin Sumberg Cares, he and the Firm have worked with United Way as a "Good Works partner" in many fundraising campaigns and volunteer efforts that benefit the organization's work in education, health and financial stability.
