Bilzin Sumberg Announces New Leadership for Practices as Business Lines Expand
Miami, FL – Bilzin Sumberg is proud to announce that a number of its partners have assumed leadership positions across core practice areas. The promotions reflect the rapid growth of business lines that mirror Florida’s robust economic growth and development, tracking the steady inflow of international investment to the state, while also acknowledging burgeoning local and national practices at the firm.
Government Contracting & Public-Partnerships Partner Eric Singer assumes the role of Practice Group Leader for Land Development & Government Relations, as Javier Aviñó becomes Bilzin Sumberg’s Head of Land Use & Zoning. Eric’s and Javier’s practices have focused on high-profile development projects that are reshaping the landscape of Florida’s built environment. Their multibillion-dollar representations on some of the most complex projects in the state have covered transportation infrastructure, public buildings, transit-oriented mixed-use developments, luxury condominiums, and affordable housing, among other asset types. Their dual appointments are reflective of the uninterrupted growth of Florida real estate, particularly in the South Florida market.
Tax & Private Wealth Partner Shawn Wolf assumes the role of Practice Group Leader for Tax & Private Wealth, as Tax & Private Wealth Partner Jennifer Wioncek becomes Head of Domestic Private Client Services. Shawn will oversee and manage the strategy and operations of one of the premier tax and estate planning practices in Florida, with Jennifer guiding the department’s response to rising demand for domestic tax counseling as international investment and wealth from high-net-worth families continue to pour into Florida. Both Shawn and Jennifer are highly experienced tax attorneys with extensive expertise in handling the tax and succession planning needs of high net worth domestic and cross-border families and their businesses. Their positions at the helm of the Tax & Private Wealth Group build on their extensive leadership of, and involvement in, leading industry associations such as The Florida Bar Tax Section, The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, and the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.
Responding to the growing national reach of Bilzin Sumberg’s real estate capital markets practice, Real Estate Partner Karyl Argamasilla has been selected to lead the firm’s CMBS and Real Estate Capital Markets Group, while Real Estate Partner Lindsey Parker becomes Co-Head of the firm’s REO Practice, joining Real Estate Partner Marjie Nealon in that role. Karyl and Lindsey represent the largest commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS) special servicers in the country. Karyl negotiates and structures billions of dollars-worth of performing and non-performing real estate loans nationwide. Lindsey focuses on the management and disposition of distressed commercial real estate, navigating the intricate legal and financial landscape governed by Pooling and Servicing Agreements and REMIC tax rules to maximize recovery for the bondholders. They have been instrumental in expanding the firm’s footprint in the CMBS space throughout numerous economic cycles and across diverse real estate markets.
"From multibillion-dollar infrastructure projects and complex cross-border wealth planning, to handling some of the most complex CMBS transactions in the real estate industry, our clients demand best-in-class counsel. These leadership transitions position us to meet that demand while maintaining the personalized attention and creative problem-solving that define the Bilzin Sumberg approach, whether we're serving clients here in Florida or across the country," says firm CEO and Managing Partner, Albert E. Dotson, Jr.
