Bilzin Sumberg Hosts Earth Day Mangrove Preserve Clean-Up
MIAMI, FL – On Saturday, April 11, Bilzin Sumberg, in partnership with Baynanza, participated in a clean-up at the John C. Farina Mangrove Preserve in North Miami Beach, Florida. The gathering formed part of the firm’s recurring days of action to protect and preserve South Florida’s unique ecosystems, and marked the seventh environmental clean-up that Bilzin Sumberg employees have contributed to in recent years.
Over the course of several hours, dozens of Bilzin Sumberg employees and their families collected garbage throughout the park grounds. The clean-up operation removed over 100 pounds of garbage, which were then hauled away by County employees. The outstanding contribution of the volunteers underscored the significant impact of collective action and served as a powerful reminder of the ongoing need to preserve natural habitats around Biscayne Bay and the broader local environment.
The John C. Farina Mangrove Preserve is a Miami-Dade County Environmentally Endangered Lands (EEL) Preserve located along the Oleta River corridor in North Miami Beach. The park protects a vital stretch of mangrove wetland that stabilizes shorelines, filters groundwater, and serves as a critical nursery ground for fish and wildlife. The preserve was named in honor of John C. Farina, who served as Compliance Chief for the County's Department of Environmental Resource Management (DERM) for 25 years and volunteered for three decades as a participant and site trainer for Baynanza. His lifelong dedication to Biscayne Bay and the broader South Florida environment made him a beloved figure in the local conservation community.
