Q & A
What excites you most about the practice of environmental law?
What I most enjoy about my practice is that no two days are the same because of the diversity of property types and environmental issues present in each matter I work on. Every site - whether for development or redevelopment - is unique in its physical characteristics, environmental challenges, and usage history. This diversity of experience ensures that I’m always learning something new while building the breadth and depth of my knowledge to service client needs.
How has your professional background in government affected your current practice?
During my time at the City of Charlotte, North Carolina, I had the opportunity to work on behalf of the municipality on a number of brownfield redevelopment projects in the city. In addition to building my knowledge of the issues involved in brownfield sites that I use today as part of my environmental counsel on those sites, it instilled in me an appreciation of the strong potential brownfield sites offer when it comes to redeveloping a property in innovative and sustainable ways to serve the needs of a growing community. My recognition of the value of, and issues inherent in, brownfield sites strongly motivates and informs my representation of clients dealing with such sites.
