Q & A
What excites you most about practicing in land use and zoning in South Florida?
Seeing the tangible results of our representation - whether it’s new apartment buildings, office complexes, or different types of commercial properties - is very gratifying. It’s also an important part of feeling like we’re “winning” for our clients by seeing the results in such a direct way. As a native Miamian, I’m also proud of the work we do for clients because so much of it either ends up enhancing my home town, in the way of open space improvements or park upgrades ancillary to the developments, or serving community needs, such as the provision of affordable and workforce housing.
What is one of the more challenging aspects of your work on behalf of real estate owners and developers?
In land use and zoning matters, supporting my clients to bring their projects to fruition involves addressing the concerns of a diverse range of stakeholders, from public officials, to civil society organizations, to local residents. Navigating the interests and needs of such a wide range of stakeholders requires our team to often craft creative solutions that satisfy both the client’s goals and the concerns of affected parties. While this task can sometimes be challenging, it’s also rewarding to attain the buy-in of local stakeholders for new developments.
