Q & A
What makes you unique as a tax and corporate lawyer?
Tax is such a technical area of the law. Through my years of navigating many different types of transactions, I’ve learned how to articulate tax issues in a way where people who don’t deal with tax structuring everyday can understand the steps we need to take and the outcomes we are working toward. My clients find this approach refreshing.
What does your relationship with clients look like?
I think it depends on what kind of work we are handling. If I’m advising on a specific tax issue, it’s probably more of a technical relationship. When it’s a corporate matter, I’m more involved in the strategy where I take on the role of a close counselor and advisor.
What evolving areas of the law do you keep a keen eye on?
The changing legislation around international taxation is always on my mind, as it is for many who advise clients on tax. In addition, the federal government has been trying to effectuate legislation around carried interest and capital gains for over a decade.
