Bilzin Sumberg Cares partnered with the Southside Elementary Museums Magnet School, located near Miami's financial district.
On a Saturday morning, Bilzin Sumberg attorneys, staff and families put their legal documents down and picked up their paintbrushes and landscaping tools during the firm-wide community outreach program, Bilzin Sumberg Cares.
Law firm employees and their families came out to Southside Elementary to "help bring smiles to little faces by helping create new learning environments for the children, so that Southside can be a place where learning does not only have to take place within the classroom," stated Marshall R. Pasternack, a Partner at Bilzin Sumberg and chair of the firms community initiative.
According to Southside Elementary Museums Magnet School principal, Salvatore Schiavone, Bilzin Sumberg Cares is assisting the school in its transition into becoming the only elementary level Museum Magnet school in South Florida.
Based on the recommendations of the teachers and administrators of Southside Elementary, Bilzin Sumberg Cares volunteers, which included both its most senior partners and its newest staff members, created functional learning tools by creating themed gardens throughout the school, each representing and reinforcing a subject being taught in the classrooms. In addition, the day was spent on a number of other projects, including painting the classrooms, fixing up the outdoor basketball court and athletic shed, and enhancing the outdoor environment of the school.
"We had 150 volunteers attend on Saturday which is a tremendous turnout. Bilzin Sumberg is proud to be doing something in our community that makes such a difference and it is amazing to see everyones commitment in coming together to affect change," said John C. Sumberg, Managing Partner, Bilzin Sumberg.
