Bilzin Sumberg Prepares to Dominate at United Way's Dare to Dodge Tournament
Miami, FL – On Thursday, March 20th, Bilzin Sumberg attorneys and staff will participate in the Dare to Dodge dodgeball tournament to raise funds for United Way of Miami-Dade. Now in its second year, the tournament has doubled in size to include eight law firms.
Bilzin Sumberg will compete alongside Akerman LLP, Berger Singerman, Carlton Fields Jorden Burt, Fowler White Burnett, Greenberg Traurig, Holland & Knight and Kluger Kaplan at 5:30 p.m. at the Downtown Athletic Club, for the coveted title of "Dodgeball Champion 2014." Entry fees paid by participants and supporters will be donated to United Way.
Dare to Dodge is yet another example of how United Way serves as a bridge, linking all sectors of the community, and bringing diverse partners and competitors to the same table. All proceeds from the tournament benefit United Way’s work in education, health and financial stability.
“We are not taking our third place finish last year lying down,” said Bryan Hawks, partner in the firm's Real Estate Practice Group and Coach of the Bilzin Sumberg Dodge Squad. “I've enforced a grueling regimen for the team that includes four hours of practice per day, followed by a minimum of 200 recitations of the five D's: dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge (again)."
Bilzin Sumberg's participation in the tournament is part of Bilzin Sumberg Cares, the firm's community involvement program which provides opportunities for attorneys, staff and their families to work together to make a positive impact in the community in which we live and work. Chaired by Corporate & Tax partner Marshall R. Pasternack, Bilzin Sumberg Cares underscores our commitment to shaping more than just the Miami skyline, by emphasizing the importance of community engagement within our corporate culture.
Now in its seventh year, Bilzin Sumberg Cares has partnered with organizations including Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America, the Miami-Dade Special Olympics, Voices for Children Foundation, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami, United Way of Miami-Dade and numerous other non-profit organizations. Our recent projects have included landscaping at Norwood Elementary school in Miami Gardens, painting the TACOLCY community center in Miami’s Liberty City, sponsoring a book bag drive at Southside Elementary school in support of United Way’s Early Literacy campaign and assisting track-and-field athletes during the Miami-Dade Special Olympics.
