Albert E. Dotson, Jr. Selected as Law360’s Government Contracts MVP

Press Release
September 7, 2021

Miami, FL – Bilzin Sumberg congratulates Managing Partner Albert E. Dotson, Jr. on being selected as a winner for Law360’s MVPs of the Year in the Government Contracts category. This award recognizes attorneys across the country who had the biggest wins and made the most significant contributions to their practice groups in the past year.

Al is nationally recognized for his work on government contracts and public-private partnerships (P3), and is known throughout Florida for his work representing local, national, and international clients in responding to government contract solicitations and defending against, or prosecuting, quasi-judicial and judicial bid protests.

In 2020, Al and his team represented Genting Group and Meridiam Infrastructure in a successful bid to undertake the first phase of design and development for a monorail connecting Downtown Miami and Miami Beach known as the Miami-Miami Beach Connector, a transit solution for the beach corridor has been more than three decades in the making. In 2021, Al led his team in a successful bid to develop Rome Yard, an 18-acre city-owned site. According to Al, “The development of Tampa’s Rome Yard will transform an underutilized 18-acre site into a vibrant community combining a mix of housing types, opportunities for local businesses, and a host of amenities for nearby residents. This is a textbook example of how the public and private sectors can collaborate to address pressing challenges, such as the mounting need for affordable and attainable housing, while also creating new value for surrounding residents, businesses, and property owners." He also counseled Broward College in selecting and negotiating with a private sector partner, a Joint Venture between Adler Group and 13th Floor Investments. As Al says, “Broward College is a pillar in the South Florida community and a critical source of higher education for our region. The modernization of Broward College’s central campus will ensure the school can continue to attract and cultivate top talent as more companies pour into South Florida every day.”

Al has been consistently recognized by Chambers USA and The Best Lawyers in America. In 2017, he was named "Attorney of the Year" by the Daily Business Review.

Bilzin Sumberg’s P3 Team, led by Al, has been the key legal representation on various multi-billion dollar Public-Private Partnerships in Florida. The team has extensive experience in public-private projects, including rail and transit facilities, airports, marinas, sports facilities, convention centers, healthcare/life sciences facilities, educational institutions, water and sewer facilities, parking structures, and various infrastructure developments. In recognition of its accomplishments, Bilzin Sumberg was among the finalists of the 2020 P3 Awards in the "Legal Advisor of the Year" category, the sixth consecutive year that the Firm has been a finalist for the prominent award. The award series, hosted by P3 Bulletin, recognizes and rewards the best in public-private partnerships (P3s) across the Americas.
