Miami, FL – Bilzin Sumberg is pleased to announce that Antitrust Partners Robert W. Turken, Scott N. Wagner, Lori P. Lustrin, and Ilana Drescher have been recognized in Law360’s Legal Lions of the Week, which highlights weekly major litigation wins across the country that have industry-wide implications.
The Antitrust Team was showcased in Law 360’s Legal Lions of the Week for its decisive trial victory in the long-running capacitors antitrust case. The team secured an unprecedented $267 million verdict on behalf of Bilzin Sumberg opt-out client Avnet Inc., one of the country’s top-five capacitor distributors. On May 22nd, the California federal jury unanimously found that Japanese capacitor manufacturer, Nippon Chemi-con, along with an American subsidiary, knowingly conspired to manipulate prices for aluminum and tantalum capacitors sold in the U.S. and purchased by Avnet. Avnet purchased billions of dollars of capacitors during the conspiracy period.
The trial win builds on Bilzin Sumberg’s long track record of impressive outcomes in high-stakes antitrust price-fixing actions over the last decade including the LCD flat panel, cathode ray tube (CRT), and DRAM computer chip cases. The Antitrust Team also represents 12 national restaurant chains and one of the nation’s largest food distribution companies in the broiler chicken antitrust litigation currently pending in the Northern District of Illinois. The Bilzin Sumberg clients have upwards of $8 billion in chicken purchases during the conspiracy period.
The remarkable results achieved by the Bilzin Sumberg Antitrust Team for their clients in the Capacitors litigation has further solidified them as the go-to counsel for complex multi-district antitrust opt-out litigation in federal courts across the country and abroad. The firm’s antitrust attorneys are consistently recognized, both individually and collectively, for their accomplishments, thought leadership, effectiveness at crafting arguments and developing precedent, and ability to steer their clients through the complexities of antitrust litigation. The Antitrust Team is recognized across leading industry publications for its work, including occupying Chambers USA’s highest ranking of Band 1 for its Antitrust Florida section.
